基于這樣的背景，MOBA類游戲出海便帶有很強的目的性。而由德國功能派學者Vermeer和Christiane Nord提出的翻譯目的論便很適用于游戲本地化的翻譯文本。其運用原則主要包含以下三點：目的性原則、連貫性原則及忠實性原則。因此，本文基于功能主義派的目的論，對熱門端游英雄聯盟的官方中文版本及手游王者榮耀S18賽季曾推出的英文版本進行具體的文本分析。通過分析具體文本翻譯的優缺點，本文將會對兩款游戲的翻譯方法做出比較，找出其相同點及不同點，旨在對游戲翻譯的本地化有更深入的理解，及為國內一些創作優良的游戲作品的出海提供指引。
